Robot Surrogate for Blind people to help artificial vision design

Caltech (California Institute of Technology) scientists have created a four wheeled mobile robotic platform which might help the design of visual prostheses. The robot is remote controlled and is able to simulate visual experiences of a visually impaired person who has been implanted with visual prosthesis, like an artificial retina.

The researchers hope that this technology may one day give blind people an independent mobility. The robot can emulate what the blind person sees with an implant. The artificial retina uses miniature cameras to capture images and then those images are processed with computer chips. The Cyclops robot comes to help at this stage, where it can let the designers see what a blind person sees during this process.
