Mechanism behind a spider robot

One type of robot that has been increasingly gaining popularity is the 4, 6 or even 8 legged spider shaped robots. The balance and efficiency of movementthat can be achieved could be far superior to the other designs. Even the simple looking moves can require a lot of software running in the background and the correlation of a lot of components to create a smooth movement for a desired objective or a set of different tasks. In the article at the link below, you can read an overview of how such a spider robot is controlled and run, and the underlying mechanisms behind it, which give a good idea of an autonomous system.
