New Robots show off at ICRA 2009 -

In the latest ICRA (International Conference on Robotics and Automation) event, which took place in Kobe-Japan, many new robots were shown, which had exciting new features. One which can climb to any pole or walk on a surface called Rise V3 was made by Boston Dynamics, which is also the maker of the recent internet celebrity BigDog robot…Another one, which was made by the Technical University of Munich, was able to navigate the streets of Munich, without having a GPS or any prior map knowledge of the city, only by asking directions from humans and finding its way with the directions given. Then there was the robot car navigation system, […] Read More

Robobusiness 2009 Conference -

Robobusiness 2009 will take place in Boston, Massachusetts on April 15th and 16th. The developing trends in consumer, industrial, entertainment etc…are being explored. The conference’s main vision is to bring together individuals in the field of robotics and the areas that the developing robotics technologies can be applied to. Gradually, as the capabilities of robots increase, the possibilities of different and more complicated tasks starts to fall into the reach of robotized solutions. RoboCup 2009 will be held in Graz, Austria -

The RoboCup is an international initiative to foster and promote education, development and research in robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The idea of RoboCup is to define an ambitious long-term goal in order to stimulate the development of Science and Technology. The vision of RoboCup is “By the year 2050, develop a team of fully autonomous humanoid robots that can win against the human soccer world champion.” To choose soccer as a test-bed for robotics research was a brilliant idea because of two reasons. First, soccer is an ideal platform to present cutting edge technology to a broad general audience. Second, the game itself is complex, highly dynamic, and requires interaction […] Read More

Lunacy” Unveiled to 42,000 High-School Students -

Life-changing program inspires young people to become individual economic stimulus packagesOver $9 million in scholarship funds available Manchester, NH, January 3, 2009; FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) launched its eighteenth FIRST Robotics Competition season today with a Kickoff of a new robotics game called “Lunacy” at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH, hometown and headquarters of FIRST. ‘Forty years ago, NASA fueled a generation’s imagination with the success of Apollo 11. As we celebrate that remarkable feat of technology and engineering with our 2009 game, “Lunacy,” we are sparking more of that kind of inspiration through the FIRST Robotics Competition,’ said FIRST founder, Dean Kamen. Annual AI conference -

Organized by the Singularity institute for Artificial Intelligence, this year’s singularity summit will take place in San Jose, CA next week. Among the speakers are Intel’s Chief Technology officer, Manager of cognitive computing at IBM. The main focus of the event is to debate implications in the future when the Artificial Intelligence has the reasoning ability close, equal to or even greater than humans. The event is open to the public and registration costs $500 per person. The word singularity is a term used in physics used to describe the point inside a black hole, where the physics laws as we know it are not anymore valid. For Artificial Intelligence, […] Read More
