In an effort to encourage robot development in a more efficient manner, DARPA has recently anounced that there will be a dedicated research funding for small business robotics research. Back in July, the US government had also determined Robotics as one of the priority Research and Development priorities of 2012 budget. Among the many purposes that the robots will be developed are, defense, healthcare and space exploration. DARPA set out the minimum criteria for the robots too. INTRODUCTION: RobotCub is an open source humanoid robot project funded by European Commission through its Cognitive Systems and Robotics Unit. The project started in september 2004 with a total duration of 60 months. There are ten research centers in Europe, three in USA and three in Japan is contributing to the project. The humanoid robot called I-Cub is a project based in several research institutions in europe, which aims to study human intelligence at the level of a baby child. Through realistic interaction with its environment, the researchers aim to develop algorithms that will enable autonomous intelligent reasoning abilities. One of the goals of the project is not just to study AI, but also to learn about the development of cognition in humans. This is a five year project suported by the european commission and it is open source, enabling collaborations with many laboratories around the world. OpenJAUS has announced their latest codebase, OpenJAUSv3.3.0. JAUS was first released in 2006 and provides a framework that allows companies to implement their robotic software. The latest code update has been in development since nine months. The JAUS project is open source and is run by volunteer robotic system designers, and software developers.
