New Robot fighter plane passes test flight -

The new robot fighter plane that was built by Northrop Grumman for US Navy, has just passed the performance test flights done in California Edwards Air Force base. The jet, which is called X-47B, and has a tailless design, flew for 29 minutes and climbed up to 5000 feet. This new generation of robot plane will be able to evade radar and fly faster than the currently used drones in Afghanistan. The plane was built under a contract awarded to Northrop Grumann in 2007 for $636 Million. During the test flight, the fighter was operated by a team on the ground. It will still take a few years for the […] Read More

Robotic Aircraft population gets bigger -

The new unmanned aerial vehicle that has just been introduced to press came from Iran this time. The robotic plane has a flight radius of 1000 km. Reference: theregister.co.uk/2010/08/23/iran_robot_bomber/ Read More

Drones using green energy -

To be able to fly for prolonged periods is a major requirement for unmanned aerial vehicles. Most of these vehicles, which are also commonly called “drones” are finding use in military applications but there are many civilian uses as well. One of the main obstacles for flying long periods is the supply of power. Using conventional combustion engines require a certain weight of fuel to be carried plus there is the noise problem. Considering some of these drones are for spying missions, using regular engines cause the noise of the engine to be easily heard from the ground, which in turn causes these planes to operate at very high altitudes. Robot helicopter to fly fast among obstacles -

Equipped with 3D laser scanners and long range planning algorithms the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is able to detect objects as far as 150m away. The vehicle can make its own map of the environment and detect small objects such as thin electrical wires. The helicopter can fly as low as only 5-10 meters above ground and can climb up to a speed of 10m/sec. For a full detail of the study please visit here. It looks like, combined with the recent artificial intelligence system developed by Stanford university, just about two months ago, soon we will see a lot of these unmanned aerial vehicles performing a lot of load carrying, […] Read More

Germany and Italy are looking to buy new UAVs -

The UAVs called MQ-9 reaper, can carry four Hellfire missiles and two 500-pound laser guided bombs, and remain aloft tracking a target for long periods of time and are also know as Hunter reaper drone. The drones cost between 200 to 300 million dollars each. By making use of the drones, both countries are hoping to provide the same level of protection of its own forces as US forces. For more visit the link below.
