Erle Robotics powers the FAED defibrillator drone -

Erle Robotics, which recently launched the first Ubuntu smart drone and is known for its Linux-based artificial brains for robots and drones, today announced its role in the FAED (Flying Automated Electronic Defibrillator) Project. The FAED, created by Andreu Ibáñez the founder of Lleida Drone, is controlled by the Erle-Brain. It carries a user friendly AED to a cardiac emergency, faster than a conventional ambulance response. FAED partners include Google, BenQ, HP, OSRF, Gigabyte, Neosalus Solutions, Adiemed, Liquid Galaxy LAB and Erle Robotics “This is a good example of the benefits our products can bring as well as showing our vision for a future where robotics improve upon and are […] Read More

Quadrocopter swarm light show over London -

As a harbinger for the Paramount film “Star Trek – Into Darkness”, starting in May in Europe’s cinemas, a swarm of 30 mini-helicopters equipped with the LED lights drew the Star Trek logo into the skies over London. The choreography for the show was developed by Ars Electronica Futurelab from Linz (Austria). Quadrocopter maker Ascending Technologies GmbH from Munich (Germany) provided the aircrafts. 30 LED-equipped mini-helicopters, for its four rotors also called quadrocopters, performed a spectacular show: They drew the Star Trek logo into the nightly sky over the city of London. Film producer Paramount had commissioned the flying light sculpture. The light show was supposed to give a sign to […] Read More

Obstacle avoiding flying robot -

A new autonomous flying robot has been developed by the Computer Science Department at Cornell University. The robot is able to avoid obstacles totally by itself, without any human guidance. It produces a 3D map of its environment and then locate the obstacles within the map. Autonomously locating the obstacles while flying has a main advantage over remote controlled operation, such as the ability to perform without needing to receive timely signals from the operator. A commercially available drone was used as the base equipment. The project also received funding from DARPA and Lockheed Martin. Autonomous flying drones can have many uses as they become more and more common, such […] Read More
